State Raises Pension for Former Civil Servants and Veterans

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government of Cambodia has decided to increase the pension of former officials, veterans and persons with disabilities.

In the sub-decree to bolster the social security system for former civil servants, veterans and persons with disabilities, Prime Minister Hun Sen signed on to increasing the monthly pension for those in the Level 1 category under the social security system receiving less than, or equal to, 670,000 riel, to 690,000 riel. Those in the Level 2 category will also see their monthly pension increased to 800,000 riel.

For former civil servants, veterans and persons with disabilities in the third level, their pension will be increased by 10,000 riel from 810,000 to 820,000 riel per month.

The Royal Government states that "former civil servants and veterans who have already received a monthly social security supplement to any of the above levels cannot receive an additional level.”

In the same sub-decree, it is also stated that for persons with disabilities in the first level of the social security system, which was integrated before 2015, an additional pension of 200,000 (twenty thousand) riel per month will also be added.

The sub-decree states that this monthly pension under the social security system shall be implemented from 1 January 2022.

Amendments to the social security system for civil servants and veterans shall be made by sub-decree after consultation between the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, the Ministry of Civil Service and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
